A health coach is a mentor or authority who drives individuals to cultivate health choices for themselves that are positive. A health coach can also be referred to as a wellness coach. The main aim of this coaching is to bring about a viable behavior change in a client by helping them to identify their goals and turning them into action.

Health coaching is a field that has numerous possibilities and has recently been thriving. The idea that you will be able to help people and make a positive impact in the world through changing individual lives seems very fascinating. However, becoming a coach may not be well suited for everyone. Here’s why:

  1. You will be required to take risks – like it is with any new business venture, you will be required to put yourself out there and make a name for yourself with your skill and ability. If the idea of an uncertain future scares you then maybe you should re-evaluate what your true passion is.
  2. You will be required to work hard – making mistakes early on in the career will result in many valuable lessons learned and experiences gained. We as humans take many things for granted and do not realize their value until we have to work hard to achieve what we want. Many successful coaches give credit to all the failures they experienced which made them want to try harder and stay committed to their vision.
  3. You will not be able to impact every individual – some clients only participate due to obligations or promises that they’ve made to loved ones. However unless they are fully determined to the cause not much can come out of it. Therefore do not get disheartened, or lose your passion when such a case arises.
  4. Do not underestimate the power of support – just because you are trying to develop your own career does not mean that you cannot gather ideas from other people or ask for help when you run into difficulties. Having professional mentors and a support system undeniably leads to long-term success.
  5. Be prepared to invest in your business – to expand a business, or simply even to get it started, investment is vital. When a business is starting out, in attempts to save money, people may be passing up on opportunities that could have proven beneficial. Start setting aside capital for a business venture, and know when to invest and what to invest in.

Considering all these facts, if the idea of a career in health coaching still draws you then you should definitely take the risk. However, if you are driven purely by money then know this; unless you establish a stable client base through integrity, trustworthiness, and hard work only then will there be any chances of monetary gains. Therefore build a coaching career only when you know you will be able to give your 100% to this new adventure.
